In "The Place", Gary Douglas has created a very inviting story about love and belonging that had me right from the start. The way he is able to create and build characters brought them alive and the detail in his descriptions made it easy to get caught up in the tale, keeping my attention to the end, wishing it would continue. What a place he's created in a world that so lacks most of it's attributes. A wonderful story that makes the journey of living much more interesting and inviting. I'd highly recommend reading it.

The Place. A novel by Gary DouglasAre you willing to have a world where language is not a barrier and people communicate telepathically, where the ability to heal and nurture one another is not limited to the qualified few, where Earth is abundant, lush ... pristine, where the wonder of magic is everywhere and with everyone, and that the present, past and future are all bound together, pregnant with possibility and choice. The Place, a brand-new novel by Gary Douglas

The story opens with Jake Rayne driving through the back-country of Idaho, in a 57 Thunderbird, reviewing his life.

"The beautiful dark-haired, funny laughing girl who disappeared. The child - sweet promise that the world will be better ... " Of the divorce he writes, "... what we love in each other dies each day as we force ourselves to fit in the box ... of real life."

An intriguing beginning to a book that gathered me up with it's compelling lyrical rhythm, rich descriptors and the seductive promise of much-more to come.

A "5-point buck" breaks Jake out of his reverie and he smashes the Thunderbird deep into the trees. His body is badly damaged and unable to help himself, he calls out into the darkness.

This is where the story really begins as he is miraculously found and healed by some very unusual people. They have talents and abilities beyond what we consider normal, yet, beyond-normal is where they function from ... and live.

As his body heals Jake learns more of these strange, yet somehow familiar, people and meets Ruth. "She smiled at me with the elegance of a movie queen of the 40’s and the sweetness of a shy virgin from the south ... ." Uncle Jed and the twins, Rob and Roy, complete the main characters.

The story unfolds for Jake as one of discovery, as each day, each moment brings something different. His body is healed of it's massive injuries and Jake's natural curiosity, for the women and the life these people live, leads him to question everything he though was true or real.
